At 11, Molouk, married and divorced within the space of 4 months. She then experienced the shock of her brother committing suicide.
He had been against the marriage. These events affected her deeply, leaving scars that would not heal.
Child marriage is legal in Yemen; there is no minimum age requirement to marry. Girls are forced into marriage with much older men without any say in the matter.
The EU is helping Yemeni girls and women like Molouk.
She was battling severe depression and suicidal thoughts when she found help in a mental health centre that is supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with EU humanitarian funding.
Since January 2021, 140,000 people, mostly girls and women, have received psychosocial support in these centres.
