Yemen debates ban on child marriages

A new bill to end child marriages in Yemen is currently on the verge of being passed by Yemeni lawmakers in the country’s national dialogue conference. The measure would make 18 the legal age limit for wedlock. The bill was augmented by women and human rights activists after an 8-year old girl, reportedly died due to internal bleeding on her wedding night after being married to a 40 year old man.
