Yemen | Women of Taiz stick to education despite war and siege
Despite war and siege the Yemenis are suffering from in addition to the bad living condition, they have not stopped to seek education. In light of the lack of interest in public education, teacher Amira Al-Sabri turned her house in a run-down building into a women’s literacy and educational center in Zabab district of Taiz in southwestern Yemen. The women cross long distances to get to the center. Besides learning how to read and write, women learn handicrafts that help them make a living to face the difficult life circumstances in Yemen. Teacher and owner of the educational center Amira Al-Sabri asked of concerned parties to provide needed support for the center, so that women are able to continue education and obtain needed knowledge.
اليمن | نساء تعز يتمسكن بالتعليم رغم ظروف الحرب والحصار
على الرغم من الحرب والحصار الذي يواجه اليمنيين من جهة، وسوء الأوضاع المعيشية من جهة أخرى، إلا أنهم لم يتوقفوا عن طلب العلم يوماً، ففي مبنى متهالك الأركان وفي ظل تراجع الاهتمام بالتعليم الحكومي حولت المعلمة، أميرة الصبري، منزلها إلى مركز لمحو الأمية ولتعليم النساء في منطقة الضباب بمحافظة تعز جنوب غربي اليمن ، حيث تقطع النساء مسافات طويلة حتى تصل إلى المركز، وتتعلم النساء إلى جانب القراءة والكتابة حرف يدوية تساعدهن في توفير مصدر دخل لمواجهة ظروف وأعباء الحياة في اليمن، وناشدت المعلمة وصاحبة المركز التعليمي، أميرة الصبري، الجهات المعنية تقديم الدعم اللازم للمركز، حتى تتمكن النساء من مواصلة التعليم والحصول على المعرفة اللازمة.
