Marriage of Minors
One of the crimes against humanity committed against young girls,
A gross violation of human rights,
A killing of childhood innocence, and a shout of nations for rights and freedoms.
Just as the recruitment of children violates the rights of male children, the marriage of minors is a violation of the rights of female children.
But the marriage of minors is a bigger offense than child recruitment because it occurs in all countries, unlike the recruitment of children, which often occur in countries of armed conflict.
Reasons for Minors Marriage:
Traditions and habits that are unjust, cruel and painful
Our parents became victims of the wrong habits that killed girls
And is still killing more and more girls.
The beliefs of fathers to marry a girl in a young age
is considered to preserve her honor, secure her future and protect her from spinsterhood,
like what happened with girls before them,
Forgetting that marriage kills her future, destroys her life and deprives her of education,
And contribute to the backwardness of society.
Poverty: which is a justification for such marriages. The marriage of young girls for money is a trading of children,
Displacement and War : Generate frightening phenomena and major problems in insecurity
For example, in Somalia, Syria, Iraq and Yemen,
Inequality between the sexes by considering the girl a disgrace must be eliminated by marriage,
And the abandonment of the family responsibility of mistakes may be committed by her,
Outside the framework of law or custom
Detriments of the marriage of minors !
According to reliable studies,
Most girls end up dying during pregnancy or childbirth
Because of her body’s inability to endure,
There are a host of important issues that are detrimental to the girl’s own interests if she survives,
And reflected on society.
First, depriving her of the tenderness of the parents that result in being psychologically and emotionally collapse.
Second: Leaving her study
It is a compulsory issue if we assume her husband allowed her to complete her studies for several reasons including:
1 – Customs and traditions: which impose the married girl to be in her husband’s house and “only/or go to the grave” as it is known in many cultures.
2 – Pregnancy and childbirth: The girl is forced to stay at home, especially during study exams days.
3 – Alienation of colleagues: The habits and traditions alienate students from married girls, and usually get discarded in the school as a whole, and fear of disclosure of marital relations to students, and many reasons make the girl in an enviable situation.
Thirdly, creating a mentally backward society
If the child is raising a child (a minor raising a minor)
Fourth: Creating a morally distorted society
Most minors have children who are physically deformed,
Nada Foundation monitored the violations against minors for the year 2017 in #Yemen:
More than 250 girls have been forcibly married for social reasons or difficult living conditions, most of whom are displaced from war or exploited for the loss of their parents or their displacement.
What if the girl completed her education and married after the legal age with her own convictions!
Let us imagine that this is our society,
And these are our customs and traditions
Our look of underage girls is like our look of male children.
My message to the world
Today we must all stand in the face of these violations, which destroy the souls of their victims;
And with that, it destroys the coming generations who was raised up by rights violated mothers since their childhood,
When they were taken by force to adult’s beds while playing with their children friends,
And were taken from of study seat to take responsibility for a larger family than a child can bear.
We must say with one voice,
Childhood is not a product for sale,
The female is not for trade,
It must be recognized that any girl anywhere in the world
must enjoy reserved and protected rights.
